evo-4g-update-continues-to-roll-out-new-version-for-varying-hardware-models

http://phandroid.com/2010/12/17/evo-4g-update-continues-to-roll-out-new-version-for-varying-hardware-models/

If you are still awaiting the latest update for the HTC EVO 4G, don’t be alarmed or surprised if the version number varies from the one you expect. It appears that depending on which model number EVO you own, you are likely to receive a different version of the update. While this isn’t always typical, it isn’t too surprising given the number of hardware revisions floating around for the EVO. If you haven’t received yours yet it may be worth checking your software update information under the ‘About phone’ menu.

HTC EVO Shift 4G's pricing revealed by Best Buy leak

The HTC EVO Shift 4G, destined for Sprint's airwaves, could be the perfect handset for a lot of people. It packs Sense, a physical QWERTY, 3.7-inch display, and WiMAX capabilities all into a neat little package. Still, many of us have been waiting to see how much the EVO Shift will cost before making any commitments. Now we can finally come closer to making a decision on whether or not to pick up an EVO Shift, though, as the device, and its potential price, has been spotted in Best Buy's systems. When it launches on an as-yet-undetermined date (we're hearing early January), the EVO Shift 4G will set you back $149.99 with the usual two-year contract and mail-in rebate, or a cool $549.99 if you prefer the contract-free route.

If this leaked pricing ends up becoming real, I have a feeling that the EVO Shift 4G could carve itself a nice little spot in Sprint's lineup. With its rumored 1GHz processer, 8 megapixel camera, WiMAX capabilities, keyboard, and Android 2.2, the EVO Shift is a deal at $150, especially for those of us that want a physical QWERTY and don't feel like shelling out $250 for an Epic. So, now that just about every piece of the EVO Shift 4G puzzle has come together, what do you all think?

Do The Palm Switch: Why I switched from android to palm

come on everybody do the palm switch!!! no? okay, maybe that wouldnt be a hit dance craze but it is something very few people would consider doing smartphone wise. But why is that? is the webos based pebble stone form factor not to your liking? wish it had as many features as other platforms? or is there too many features for you? Well that didnt stop me from doing what i do best, going against the grain.

ive always love technology, it alot of ways, its apart of me. im constinently talking about gadgets mostly phones, and im always looking up info about the mobile phone universe. i collect phones. yes thats right i just wrote that.me and phones are as to shoes are with women. just a hobby i love. and because of that, ive had the pleasure to see so many amazing things in the few years concerning the new age of smartphones. but there was always something missing with each exprience.

the exprience
the first smartphone for me and probably the majority of consumers was the iphone. and i loved it. simple elegant. fun. stable. it did what i needed it to do. but something was missing. it was my custom features. i couldnt place a wallper in the home screen and at the time no landscape keyboard for texting was a let down coming from a simple lg vu with this option. i then went to the mod community and started my road down heaven. It was amazing what the iphone community has done that apple refused to bring the first time around. it felt like i have found my place at apple. but a new ui came to play. a little green robot named android.

ive been following this small project from google while i was down hearted with my iphone and saw some things i was missing function wise. the easy to recieve my info at a glance and still continue what i was doing. true iphone was simple enough, but i found myself needed a platform that could be simple and at the same time deep enough to meet my everyday needs. So I switched to a G1. I loved it! my slideout keyboard, and my lovely notification bar. and i loved the emrerging droid community even more than iphone. it was trully bliss. apps were slim but no need to fear, the apps where few but the quality was great. and with alot of the other platforms(blackberry and windows mobile) i started to need something more. the widgets where a great addition needed and that filled my tank so to speak. but i needed something else. it slowly wasnt enough.

the way out
i started to get bored with the many ports of roms and apps that was created thur androids short lifespan. that sinking feeling started to sprout its ugly head once more wanting to now find a balance between the two loves i had. android and IOS. could there be a interface that gave me that flexibility? was there something out there that was simple but yet fun to modify without being mundane and quickly boring? Dont get me wrong I love both android and IOS. but they ran there course. To simple and closed, while Android was too open and without boundraies.

In came Webos. Ive seen palm and the various phones using Palmos but they didnt strike me as good enough to be in my collection of devices(i eveauntually got one for cheap just to have it.) but Palm really put there foot into this one. a well balanced OS. just so stunning and simple and beautiful yet, it was powerfull customiziable and had endless posibilities. This is what i was waiting for. It came to me then that this is what i wanted. it wasnt the fact that it looked cool with its card multitasking. it sure wasnt the form factor. but i saw what I liked from both Android and IOS that was done right. it was a hard decision though as it wasnt in my finacial plan to get one.

the desicion
i just bought a samsung vibrant which on android is probably the closest you will get to a full exprience in a smartphone other than iphone. but i found myself wanting to changed its look to webos constantly. it was a disease. i had to find a cure. it was the only way. the fake apps that acted like Webos wasnt enough. I made my mind up. i took this chance to abandon ship in which i called home for some time to hopfully make a new home. the first week of my desiscion was lovely but wierd i wanted to gesture up to change my card.......... on the samsung vibrant. it dosent feel right. pressing a button that is. i find myself moving faster and making quicker responses to actions with just a gesture. it is trully amazing. it trumps evveryway you can think of to navigating within a device. it just...make... sense. simple? indeed it is. fun? without a doubt the most fun i had doing nothing but basic things lioke texting and making phone calls. surfing the web. it does has its weakness but not enough to be upset about. i wanted to then push the envelope and root my palm pre plus. and it was easy. too easy. and from there i found the missing link with the deeper features department. great notifications was already there, preware made it great. organize was simple. it made it amazing and simple. it dosent feel like im looking at a screen. it feels almost real. apart of my life instead of being in my life. there isnt anything that the webos cant do that any other platform has done, at the same time. the best of both worlds and thats perfect in my book.

Palm switch?
so i dont regret my desiscion. it was probably the best thing i could of done for myself. that being said would it be for you? it could be,but how would you know? people have there favorites and thats completely fine. in fact that only makes things better. it makes it you. your phone your mobile. and palm has made something for me. and this coming 2011 will only get better. i cant wait to see it come about while i share it with you with more articles to come. with tablets and better ecosystems and smartphones alike, i can trully say i love my Palm............ pause.

The Comcast App in the Android Market.

Good day,

Personally I think this is a good app. It allows you to use your phone as a tv guide. Then you're able to make decisions on the programs you want to watch. You can request to record a program, be reminded, or informed of what's coming on. This app also allows you to retrieve your emails. To use it you just need your email and password then your in. The user interface felt a bit off to me. The iPad version is much better in my option . But I know that the updates for this app will work out the kinks. If you get a chance to download it, let me know what you think. Thanks a lot.

What would make you get a new Phone?

Photobucket
Hey Everyone its MrCapcom for Mobile Kombat. And today I would like to ask you a question.
Whats your next phone? Being a somewhat of a Tech Guru myself you know with CES coming and the new year, a flood of devices are coming in. And I wanted to get your view on what will be your next device?

I will make a quick list of things that will move me to ugprade.

1. Has to be on Verizon - Ok me personally nobody tops verizon in service. Your mileage may vary but this is my list so there!

2. 4G LTE - Its all about the mega gigabytes son. With LTE on the rise I doubt I will use it but its the next best thing. Its kinda like hustling backwards getting a 3G phone when 4G is out. Hopefully Verizon will have bareable plans and give you a choice to use it or not. (if not then ill stay wtih 3G *contrary to belief im not made out of money!*)

3. Front Facing Camera – Its not the best thing in the world some may want it or not but its starting to be a staple in phones. I just got a 4th Gen Ipod Touch and I use the Front Facing Camera a lot. Not a deal breaker but come on its not hard to do it.

4. Processor power – I kept this just at processor power for several reasons 1 we have 1ghz phones out (Yay Droid X) Then we have the Tegra 2 Dual Cores then we have the mytical 4 Core phones. I have my Droid X with and with out Rom’s and 1ghz is enough for me. When I had my Omnia at 600mhz and my Droid 1 @ 550 yea it sucked but 1ghz is just as good.

5. 4.3 or 4.0 inch screen – Come on Droid X 4.3 Screen I can’t go lower than that. My Droid X screen size helps a lot with every day things email/photos/videos I don’t see myself going to a phone lower than 4.0

6. 8MP & 720P recording or higher – Yea Droid X Does and I don’t see why this won’t be come a staple in the future of phones. You want another reason for a father of three to spend money on these devices keep this in. I have at lest 1200 photos+Videos of my children on my Droid X alone….

7. Wifi N - Don’t believe my X has this but Meh

I think those are pretty much the must haves for a phone that I would need to upgrade to. Some maybes would be a HTC phone I love the Sense UI and I think I would move to them if I found a great phone but its not a deal breaker. Plus HTC seems more open to roms ETC. Next would be On Board usuable ram the Droid 1 came with somewhere around 256-512 where as the Droid X came with 8gb (6gb usuable) which seems to be a staple now in new phones (nexus S has like 16 on board ). And Of course has to run Android but we will get to that in another article.
So what’s your spec s for a new phone to upgrade?

[Update] Phone that comes close to what I said above would be the HTC Incredible HD ^_^

MIUI ROM for OG Droid 1: Droid Does.....it Again

I had recently got a chance to root my phone, and after surfing and flashing a whole bunch of cool ROMs like Sapphire, Cyanogen, and Bugless Beast, I finally found a ROM that I don’t think I’ll be removing for quite some time. The ROM is called MIUI. The guys from Droid-life.com had released pictures and video of this ROM a few weeks ago and then finally got a chance to play with a stable version, and I have to say…they are the luckiest people on the internet to get there hands on this stuff first.

The MIUI ROM allows you to do a lot of things that some ROM’s may catch up on in the near future. The ROM itself gives you a kind of iPhone look. MIUI itself was released for the OG Droid 1 and after flashing this ROM; it is both smooth and fast. I haven’t had any issues with it like lag or the like and the features are in abundance.

Some of the features include an increase in home screens. Right now I have about 7 home screens but after playing with it, I could add nearly 12 screens to my phone! I have to say that’s impressive. You also retain the ability to add widgets to your home screen, something that the iPhone itself cant do. The ROM also changes the UI of some the important features of the normal processes of the phone like the Phone Dial, Lock Screen, and even the dock bar gets an upgrade allowing you to load up 6 apps in to the dock bar.

This in my opinion, is a very impressive rom. But if you haven’t seen this ROM for you device yet, be on the lookout, Droid-life mentioned that the ROM would be coming to a device near you soon under Android. One thing I can say about these ROMs and the developers that make them is that each ROM is like getting a different gift each time you flash one to your phone. And a special thanks to Droid-life for releasing this ROM on their site. If you’re a OG Droid user and your rooted, definitely give this a chance. And check out some of my pictures of the MIUI ROM below.

From Android to Palm? R.I.P. @Qlight43

I don't normally make posts about my personal life but this actually has some bearing to something that we, as consumers, have had to recently had to deal with especially since the Android/iOS battle took off when the OG Droid 1 stepped in the ring to do battle with the iPhone for dominance. Its more like picking sides in a fight...and today (well yesterday actually) one of my good friends........defected.

Now dont get me wrong, we as consumers do have freedom of choice to pick any device we want to have in our pockets. Some consumers wise up, in the instant of the sudden burst in Android to iPhone sales. But when one comes and sees that the grass is actually greener on the other side but returns to that old dusty "other side", it kind of hurts your soul.

Recently, my good friend @Qlight43 (which is his twitter name) purchased a Palm Pixi under At&t, turning his back on the Android OS and the Samsung Vibrant that we knew he had come to love and cherish. Once a solid enthusiast for the everything Android, now he has defected to Palm and the all its pretty pictures.

It just reminds me of all the battling and beef that Android users have been doing with iPhone users (aka the Jobettes). We all make our choices for the phones that we want to use, but nowadays its more like picking a gang to join. Android, Blackberry, iPhone, and Palm, among others....which will you chose?

Droid Does...EXPLODE!

It’s not a good day in the Droid world right now. A man from Cedar Hill, Texas was injured when his phone, a Droid 2, exploded on him while he was talking on it. Aron Embry, the man that had his phone explode, said that he was just talking on it when he heard a "pop". When he took his phone down away from his ear, he said he felt something trickle down the side of his neck, which ended up being blood. He was bleeding so much that he had to be rushed to the emergency room to be treated. He had to get four stitches in his ear, but he didn’t suffer any hearing loss.

From the look of the phone, it looks like the glass on the front of the Droid 2 had a meltdown and fried the guy’s ear. The sad thing is.... he only had it for two days. Motorola issued a statement Thursday evening stating...

"Motorola's priority is, and always has been the safety of our customers, and all Motorola products are designed, manufactured and tested to meet or exceed international and local standards for consumer safety. We will reach out to the consumer and investigate this thoroughly."

While exploding phones are rare, most cases of exploding phones often happen when they are being charged. Keeping phones away from water and other liquids and to keep the battery away from metal objects while the phone is not in use. Sad day when the Droid name gets put in the news for something

like this.

1ghz Processor in a palm if your hand

Those Flash videos and games that won't play on iPhones and are hit or miss on Droid phones now work in the new Palm Pre 2.

The new Palm Pre 2 has embraced Adobe Flash. Thanks to its new operating system dubbed Web OS 2.0, Flash applications and videos function on the phone rather

seamlessly without additional software, apps or tweaks.

According to Hewlett Packard which bought Palm back in April, the Flash capabilities are just the tip of the iceberg of what Web OS 2.0 can do. It has also pumped up the Palm's multitasking abilities.

For instance users can pause a game, check email or read restaurant reviews without shutting down apps.

Keeping up with all of a friend's information is also simplified. With a feature called Just Type, by typing a keyword or someone's name, multiple options of emailing, updating a social network status, calling, texting or searching come up at once. Users "just type" out the desired action.

Technology Lifestyle Consultant and author of the Brotha Tech Blog Terrance Gaines finds the multitasking feature "smooth and attractive".

"Multitasking on other OS (operating systems) like Apple's iOS while just as fast, is not as intuitive," says Gaines. "The less thought that goes into switching between applications, the more attractive (or sexy) multitasking will be to use."

Gaines points out that Palm's sleeker and upgraded look may also draw the attention of buyers.

But ultimately it's all about the apps, not the operating system.

Currently the smartphone market is dominated by what Gaines calls the big three: Apple iPhone, Google Androids and the Blackberry. The iPhone and Android phones are the most popular because they offer a multitude of apps.

Notes Gaines, "In my opinion, apps are what make a good smartphone great, so the more developers willing to write apps for a certain OS, the more a brand can cement itself as the most popular."

In the app battle, iPhone is apparently winning.

Z4root: Your Gateway to Root goodness

Looking for a way to root your phone without having to do all those tricky input codes and computer motions? Then go straight to the Android Marketplace and download the app called Z4root. This has got to be one of the greatest rooting apps ever made (probably the only one at this point), but it definitely roots your phone. And no bricking at all! At least from my experience anyway.

The app allows a superb one click method that will put the proper code into your phone which will unlock your phone and allow you "super user" access to your device , allowing you to overclock your phone, add Roms and anything else that you can do with Root access. Now you should know that this app still doesnt work on ALL android devices. Check the developers changelog to make sure that your device is compatible for the app before attempting to use it.

Give it a shot and go the Android Market and download it to see if your phone is compatible. I just recently did it and have overclocked to 800mhz and got one of my friends to root his Galaxy S with the app. So if you need more proof, comment below and I'll load up some screen shots with the Shootme app thats only available for Root users and check out my Nicki Minaj theme.

Oh, and if rooting your phone isnt your thing, you can unroot your phone with the same app as well.....pretty handy dont you think?

Xfinity remote control via iPad today and tomorrow the world

If you've got Comcast service and an iOS device, there's no reason you can't download the brand spanking new Xfinity TV DVR remote app right now, but it won't have the software's spiffiest feature -- direct-to-device streaming video. That's set to roll out in either "a couple of weeks" or "by the end of the year," depending on which Comcast representative you ask, and we got to try it for ourselves (along with the rest of the app) at the Web 2.0 Summit this week. Right now the feature is fairly limited -- you just pick programs from a guide and either watch them, beam them to your TV, or tell your DVR to record -- but what is there was leagues more intuitive than a physical remote and about as responsive as we could hope for. Comcast tells us that Apple itself helped insure the user experience was polished, and it showed in every swipe and tap we made. Find out more and watch the app in action after the break!

Spike Lee's next big project: movie by cell phones

Lee wants to create a full-fledged movie using scenes shot entirely with mobile phone footage. People from across the world will be able to shoot video and submit it for inclusion in the final product.
"You are seeing first hand the democratization of film. Aspiring filmmakers no longer have to go to film school to make great work. With a simple mobile phone, almost anyone can now become a filmmaker," said Lee in a statement.
Although he has produced and directed a number of successful mainstream movies, Lee has also created some off-the-beaten path and sometimes controversial films including the 2006 Katrina documentary "How the Levees Broke."
The movie, produced by Nokia Creations, a company created alongside Spike Lee's partnership, will reportedly consits of three acts. Information about each act will be posted online, and users will be able to film their interpretation of the posting. Selected entries will then be used in the movie.
The only catch is everything must be recorded with a cell phone camera (but that doesn't mean you can't still film your scene in HD). Users can also enter text, photos and music submissions for inclusion in the movie.
"Help us push the boundaries of creativity and co-create a film using your mobile phone," said Lee in a video on the newly created Nokia Productions website.
Submissions for act one are open to the public now, with the description, "Humanity is our central theme. Think about its meaning and how music tells our story."

Evo vs Epic BATTLE

With Sprint racking up two hot devices for their 4G network, this is a great comparison to see which device would trump the other. Although the Samsung Epic 4G is not yet available for a hands-on comparison, Wirefly has done their best to bring all of the necessary information to one location. The HTC Evo 4G launched on June 4th and proved worthy as the device is currently out of stock practically everywhere and has since offered a white backing exclusively to Best Buy. The Samsung Epic 4G is Sprint’s variant of the Samsung Galaxy S which is proving to be top contender in the mobile market with its sleek design and beautiful super AMOLED display. So let’s get started shall we?
User interface:
Both the HTC Evo 4G and the Samsung Epic 4G are running Android 2.1, but they are using their manufacturers’ own custom UI. The HTC Evo 4G is running its HTC Sense UI and the Samsung Epic is running Samsung’s Touchwiz 3.0 UI. The custom user interface of both devices boil down to user preference while some might argue that HTC has a more polished widget friendly UI.
Keyboard:
The Epic and the Evo both have virtual keyboards, The Epic 4G is expected to come with Swype pre-loaded on the device which you can also get for the HTC Evo. The HTC Evo is limited to the virtual keyboard while some users have grown accustomed to the physical keyboard that can be found on the Epic 4G.
HDMI out:
The HTC Evo 4G offers a micro HDMI port that is capable of outputting HD media to your HDTV or projector. The Evo can display anything on the device (including movies) to the TV or projector (HDMI cable not included). The Samsung Epic 4G does not have an HDMI port; the Epic is still able to do video-out via its 3.5mm jack (cable not included) and unfortunately the Epic does not provide HD-out capabilities.
Display:
The HTC Evo 4G has a huge 4.3″ display that makes watching movies or reading ebooks much easier with 480 X 800 resolution. The slightly smaller display on the Samsung Epic is 4″, but the super AMOLED display provides a rich viewing quality.
Camera:
The Samsung Epic 4G is sporting a 5-MP camera with autofocus and a single flash, while the HTC Evo 4G has an 8-MP camera with autofocus and a dual LED flash. Both devices are capable of recording in HD and are rockin’ front-facing cameras.
Battery life:
Since the Epic 4G is not available, the battery life on the Epic can not be tested, but the Epic 4G’s super AMOLED display and Hummingbird processor are likely to assist the device in achieving longer talk and standby times as compared to the HTC Evo 4G’s Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

PlayBook faces off with iPad in a battle of the browsers

We haven't seen much of the BlackBerry PlayBook in action, but a new video posted today by RIM is sure to satiate your PlayBook thirst. During the the three minute browse-a-thon, you'll see the PlayBook go head-to-head against an iPad in page rendering, Flash compatibility, and an Acid3 test. The PlayBook comes out on top in just about every comparison, which is unsurprising since this is a video from RIM, and in one instance it even finishes loading up a page before the iPad renders any portion of it. You can check out the full demo below.

While I wouldn't say that this is a be-all, end-all comparison between the PlayBook and the iPad, it'd definitely nice to see RIM's tablet in use for a few minutes. Both the keyboard and browsing experience on the PlayBook look really nice, and we're still at least a couple of months away from seeing the device land on store shelves, so things could be even better when launch time finally rolls around. So now that we've all gotten a good look at the PlayBook's Web browser and Flash capabilities, are any of you sold on RIM's tablet?

Rumor: HTC Speedy will be known as the EVO Shift 4G, Nexus S to sport a curved display

When we learned that HTC was trying to trademark the name "HTC EVO Shift 4G," we speculated that the device could end up being an EVO with a physical QWERTY keyboard bolted on, which is an idea that many of you seemed to like. According to an "established tipster" speaking to Engadget, the EVO Shift 4G is actually the HTC Knight/Speedy that leaked last month. The device is described as being a "downsized EVO 4G with a four-row sliding keyboard and a larger battery" and, interestingly, the source says that the front-facing camera found on the EVO will be cut from its keyboard-toting little brother. Engadget's source also had something to say about the Nexus S: it'll include a curved display that Samsung claims improves "perceived usability" when compared to a flat screen.

The EVO Shift 4G names seems appropriate for the Speedy (as one of our commenters guessed), especially when you notice that the Speedy has capacitive Android keys on its face, just like the EVO. It would be pretty disappointing if the EVO Shift 4G ends up lacking a front-facing camera, especially if it's WiMAX-capable like the name implies, but at least those owners will have something that EVO users can lust over: a physical QWERTY. I don't know if I would be willing to trade in the EVO's front-facing camera and 4.3-inch display for something that's a bit smaller but has a hardware keyboard and beefier battery would you?

HTC EVO 4G in white ON SALE

Up until now, Best Buy was the place to go if you wanted to purchase an HTC EVO 4G decked out in white since they had an exclusivity to it.

However, you won't have to worry if you don't have one local to your area because the still relevant Android powered smartphone in white can be purchased just about anywhere. Sprint announced today that the white HTC EVO 4G is now available for sale online via their web site and through a host of other “national retail partners.”

There's no difference in price for this specific one, as it's set at $199.99 after a $100 mail-in-rebate with a 2-year contract, but you'll have the prestigious award of owning one of Sprint's highly prized 4G enabled smartphones.

Wouldn't it be nice if all cell phone carriers would allow their software to be interactive with each other. For instance if u are with at&t and have a iPhone wouldn't it be nice if your iPad could be on the same account? Or even with the Android tablet whatever cell phone provider u had wouldn't it be nice if you could use the same provider for internet service? Well that just me thinking out loud.

Should you buy the myTouch 3G Slide?

The Slide is a pretty good mid-range Android handset that beats the tar out of devices like the Motorola Devour, Cliq XT and the Motorola Backflip and it should make a lot of first-time smartphone buyers happy. The problem is that T-Mobile is positioning this as a flagship device, which puts it in direct competition with the Droid Incredible, EVO 4G and iPhone 4. It does not stack up well against those handsets.

My take on this matter is that if you are a person that wants to have a smart phone for the sake of having one because yours still take quarters to make a call. Then the slide is for you. I don't see it making those who already have a smart phone leave theirs to get this one. But it has features that can make you stay with T-Mobile.

Samsung Tab Release At Tmobile

T-mobile today is the to first to sell the Samsung Galaxy Tab in the United States. The authentic Android tablet is now on contract for $399 or at a full retail price of $599. Being that Tmobile released the tablet first it trumps Verizon which comes out tomorrow and Sprint to release their white back version on the 14th. Which comes as a surprise. You would think Verizon would beat everyone to the punch. But it looks like Tmobile is making some moves near the end of this quarter. The 7 inch android tablet is finally here! So the question is, who really will be buying it? Let us know arty the comments below and/or twitter with #samsungtab included.

Everybody is on the hunt for The Gingerbread Man

Rumors have been surfacing for a few weeks now that Gingerbread, aka Android 2.3, is soon to be released. Rumors on the mill say that it may even be released this week on the 11th! Phandroid reported these findings and even spoke of the rumor that the SDK for the new AndroidOS was suppose to be leaked two weeks ago (again another rumor).
I would like to see that new OS hit Android phones before the holidays really start kicking off but with rumors like these its always better to wait and see what will develop rather than take them as the truth only to be disappointed. Seeing is believing.....so if its there, then lets have some good ol Gingerbread.

Fire In The Hole: Firefox 4 Beta app review

Don't like your defualt android browser? There's a lot of alternatives out there in the market. And plenty of us probably tried the majority of them. But as of late, a new kid is on the block. Firefox beta which is the smartphone version of the big boy computers is on android and so far I'm liking. The browser.

The first thing you notice when you open this browser is the loading screen which I could care less for. And also your recent website and recommended add ons. This is pretty cool, it gives you the feel that your using the desktop version which is nice. Optimized for the android device, you can navigate to you're settings and navigation buttons to the right, and your opened tabs to your left. Which a button to reopen closed tabs which is nice if u close one by mistake.

But there are bad features are pretty noticeable. First off, the browser sometimes disentangle keep your websites open when your multitasking. This could just be something I noticed but is a very big red flag. Second its huge in the file size department. For the most part this new version is smaller and faster than the previous ones, but big none the less.

Final verdict: a pretty solid browser. It has a dolphin browser feel, with a firefox look. You have the ability to install add ons, and even sync your computer to your desktop version which sets it apart from the rest.  But just like its older brother, it takes up too much space. It also instead that great in the multitasking department. Lets just hope that the kinks are worked out when its out of beta.

App Review: PowerAMP

This has to be one greatest music apps to hit the Marketplace in the last few months outside of WinAMP. Some have been calling for this app to replace the stock Android app, and for what its worth....I cant blame them. This music player is a standalone and its only been available for a couple of weeks. The sleek UI is incredibly smooth and has zero lag.
It also comes with three different themes you can change on the fly (and that are completely free I might add). It also has a host of other features that makes this app such a pleasure to use such as:

- Fast Folder Sync System
- Music and Folder Sorting Settings
- Album Art Options
- Lockscreen and Headset Options
- Set Songs as Ringtones

This app is great and one of the biggest features this app boasts is the Equalizer. Being able to change the various volume options for the music player is one of the coolest things I have seen. You can also set songs as ringtones. At first glance, there didnt seem to be a search bar to quickly locate music, but when you are in a playlist, you can type in the letters using your keyboard.
All in all, this is one of the greats in the music department and the crazy thing is.....its still a beta. There still are some features that I hope they add but only time will tell what the developers plan to add to make this even more popular then it already is.
This app is definitely worth the download and is free in the Android Marketplace. If you haven't downloaded this yet, you should be slapping yourself right now while looking it up to download to your phone.

Stumbleupon app gets a new update

Stumbleupon is an interesting app that allows you to find new things of interest like websites and photos by recommending them to you for your certain tastes. This app just recently got a new update that allows it to do something that most of us Android users have been yearning for.....Application Search!
This new feature will allow you to find new and cool apps based off of what you already have on your phones. It searches through the apps you already use and gives you recommendations to apps that are to your liking based off of what your already using. Sounds like a good feature to have, especially since this would be a good feeder app for the Android Marketplace. Give this app a try and see if its to your liking. Its free right now in the Android Market so thats always a plus. The App Search option is still in beta though so your searches may vary. Comments below.

Samsung Galaxy S takes top selling phone away from Iphone4 in Japan

Yeah, The iPhone is no longer Japan’s top selling smartphone, and to make it worse only in a one week span. Still, that’s something. The IPhone has held the top spot for the last 18 weeks since released  in June. The takeover could have been because it was the Galaxy S first week on the market in Japan. But no matter how u look at it, Andriod trumps iPhone once more.

hotel,motel,holiday inn; Cell phone keys?

STOCKHOLM – Visitors to a Stockholm hotel will be able to use mobile phones instead of keys to unlock the doors to their rooms.
Assa Abloy AB, the world's largest maker of door locks, has launched a pilot in which Clarion Hotel Stockholm will lend customers mobile phones with close-range radio chips, much like devices used for contact-less payments at gas stations.
Repeat visitors during a four-month trial will be able to check in through their phones before arrival and have their phones activated as "keys." They will then be able to skip the registration desk and unlock the door by holding the phone next to it.
The short-range radio technology, known as Near Field Communication, is expected to be built into smart phones in the coming years. It is also envisioned for ticketing and card payments. Assa Abloy says it wanted to test the system before expanding it to other hotels, commercial buildings and homes.
Greger Johansson, a telecommunications analyst at research firm Redeye, said NFC is a hot technology in the mobile phone market. But he said few models have incorporated it so far and it will take "several years" before it becomes widely used.
"It's not just a matter of incorporating the technology into the phones," he said. "You need someone who can read it too. There are quite a few players involved so it will take a while until it works well."
The head of Assa Abloy's mobile keys division, Daniel Berg, acknowledged that participants in the trial may find it cumbersome to have an extra mobile phone.
But once people have the technology in their own phones, he said, it will save them time at check-in and improve security because the access credentials in a lost phone can be revoked remotely.
He said the phone technology works with existing radio-enabled locks, so hotels can continue giving key cards to visitors who don't have the new technology in their phones.

Will the Windows Phone 7 Succeed?

Microsoft just announced the release of its new Windows Phone 7 platform, and there are those in the cell phone world that are convinced that this device will be the boost that Microsoft needs to truly make a dent in the cell phone market. There are also plenty of skeptics, given the fact that the Windows Mobile platform has been less than stellar in terms of its marketplace performance.
Still, if Microsoft has any chance this time around, it’s largely because of the support that’s been announced from many of the cell phone hardware manufacturers, including HTC, LG and Samsung. Whether or not that will be enough, of course, remains to be seen.
While details are still coming out, a few things are known about the new platform. Windows Phone 7, much like Google’s Android cell phone OS, will run on multiple hardware devices and will also be available from multiple wireless networks. This will give Microsoft a slight advantage over the Apple iPhone, at least in the short term. While nothing official has come out yet, there is widespread belief that Apple will be releasing an iPhone for use on the Verizon wireless network sometime in the next 12 months.
Microsoft is relying also on its name to help sell the new phone. The implied interoperability between the cell device and, let’s say for example Microsoft office, will be a tremendous selling point for some buyers. Add it the prospect of integration into the Xbox 360 and probably the Zune marketplace, and we could be looking at a true contender. (Currently, it is estimated that there are as many as 60 games for the Xbox that will feature Windows Phone integration.)
Certainly, it’s too early to tell how this will impact the smartphone marketplace. It may well be that Microsoft is coming too late to this dance. Then again, if Microsoft can learn from the iPhone and Android marketplaces and see what it is that truly keeps customers coming, it has a fighting chance. Being able to offer the best of both of its competitors could be just the boost that Microsoft needs to compete.
The one missing piece of this puzzle, of course, is the question of the tablet. While the iPad has proven to be the most successful product launch in Apple’s history, the Android-based tablet implementations are still unproven. Whether Microsoft would even consider a foray into that marketplace using anything other than its core Windows 7 OS is doubtful, but it’s also likely that a truly competitive tablet would have to run a scaled-down version of that OS if it were to perform in the marketplace.

New IM App LiveProfile Beta

XDA-forum was nice enough to alert the Android community of a new instant message app called LiveProfile Beta. This app allows you to instant message friends in real time and crosses all platforms like Blackberry, Android, and iPhone.
From what i got to look at, the user interface looks pretty good, even better than Pingchat (if you still use that.) It does have a four star rating in the Android Marketplace and hopefully the speed is better than other IM apps that boast the cross platform ability. Check out the link below and give it a shot.

The PlayStation Phone?

I remember being younger and having my gameboy everywhere I went. Now that I am older my phone (EVO 4G) has taken its place. Now Sony is commin out with a playstation phone. This will bridge the gap from the teens to adults. So that they can play their games and still have a respectively nice phone. Newly leaked snapshots of a purported PlayStation Phone would appear to confirm that Sony's looking to Android when it comes to rebooting its portable gaming platform — assuming the photos are real, of course. The PlayStation Phone — if, indeed, that's what we're looking at here — would run on Android 3.0 "Gingerbread" (a future version of the Android OS), according to Engadget, with a peppy 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 processor under the hood and 512MB of RAM, along with a slot for microSD (not Sony's proprietary Memory Stick format) storage cards.

Sprint Launches Certified Pre-Owned Device Program

Sprint this week announced a new Certified Pre-owned Device Program, giving Sprint customers a chance to purchase pre-owned devices at a lower cost. But not only do those who purchase a pre-owned device get a great deal, they are helping the environment by giving these pre-owned devices a "second life."
Three certified pre-owned devices are now available at Sprint.com รข€“ BlackBerry Tour, Samsung Reclaim in green, and Sanyo 2700 in pink and blue. Existing customers can purchase one of these pre-owned devices at regular price without a contract extension and without affecting their current upgrade eligibility status.
Existing pricing for the devices are as follows:

BlackBerry Tour at $79.99, and
Samsung Reclaim in green and Sanyo 2700 in pink and blue are each available for $49.99.
Customers with a new two year contract can get the Hero & Tour at $29.99 and the green Reclaim or pink & blue 2700 for FREE.

Android Central blog has “obtained” information on four new Verizon 4G phones – two from Motorola and one from LG and HTC, maker of the wildly popular Samsung Epic 4G and EVO 4G. It looks like they are trying to lock all major phones down. This will make a lot of people happy.

Extend Your Evo 4G's Battery Life With These Tweaks

When you think of HTC’s EVO 4G phone, two things immediately pop-up in your mind: 1) wow this thing is amazing, and 2) wow this battery life is absolutely terrible. But there is some good news: The phone is still amazing, and now there are some ways that can help combat the battery issue.

Okay, I know what you’re thinking: “Well, that was dumb. I already know that.” But here’s the fun part! Visit the XDA Developers community find out how to calibrate the battery, clear the battery stats, experiment with Kernels, and use the Collin_ph Battery Tweak

I have done a few things to save my batt life. If u have any ideas let me know.

First things first; let’s get the easy tweaks (that you probably already know) out of the way:
Turn off 3G/4G when you’re not using either of them;
Turn off the GPS if you’re not using it;
Lower the brightness to something reasonably bearable/useable to you;
If you are using wallpapers/backgrounds, use black-colored ones (blackle, anyone?);
