Google Walking Navigation

Photobucket
This Past weekend I went to NYC to the NYCC/NYAF at the Jacbo Javits center. My Wife
went with me too and as she was out with her girlfriends (and my car) I was left to
fend for myself in the concrete jungle.

Thankfully I had my trust DROID X and Google Maps. So I saw this as a great opportunity
to use the Google Maps Walking Navigation, and figure i would share some of my thoughts
on using it.

PRO's
It knows your walking.
I have used some gps's and when your walking it just acts down right stupid. When
I used it I felt like it was really following me. The arrow would move along the
map as I was moving which showed it really had a dead lock on.

Voice Navigation
so to pass the time (was a 1mile walk or so) I listened to my mp3 app on my DROID X.
While im bumpin illmatic when it was time for me to turn it would silence the music
tell me directions and put my music back on. Nice feature so I wouldn't have to keep
looking at my phone. which I did and almost ran into this truck lol :

All in all it was was pretty accurate for walking with a gps on a phone. Now the Con's

CON's

Map Snapping
This is a feature I see sometimes on GPS systems called Snapping. If your location seems a bit off from where it "thinks" the road is it usually auto "Snaps" you to the closest road whith in whatever amount of feet. Well this doesn't happen.

As you can see it (I took this pic today) It thinks im running on top of a building or something. It should have snapped me to the road but it didnt. Minor flaw but when I do get to a turn it knows I'm there and tells me to proceed so its not that bad of a Con but would be nice if thats fixed.

Conclusion
Its fantastic try it use it live by it. Google Maps is one of the best apps on Android and it keeps getting better. It needs to be polished a bit but by no means is it a deal breaker.
