A BlackBerry Minus the Qwerty Keyboard Equals the Curve Touch?

BlackBerry’s low end entry to the CDMA smartphone realm, the Curve Touch, while yet unofficial (this phone was leaked to CrackBerry.com under the codename “malibu”) is further evidence that RIM is taking a new approach to it’s hardware; an approach much more in line with companies like HTC, Motorola and Apple.

The Curve Touch will sport a 3.25” 480x360 HVGA display. It’ll be powered by an 800MHz Qualcomm processor, carry 1GB of Flash memory plus a microSD slot, and 512MB of RAM. It has a GPS, NFC capabilities and yes, a VIRTUAL Qwerty keyboard. It seems that RIM will try to used the new Curve to draw in consumers who don’t already own BlackBerries. Likely a GSM phone will follow.

While this is not the first BlackBerry without a keyboard, it will be the first in the Curve line of phones. So is this another step in the right direction? Is a late 2011/early 2012 release too long too wait for this phone? Are you repulsed by the idea of an all touch BlackBerry? Is a BlackBerry a BlackBerry without the physical Qwerty? Isn’t it cool that Qwerty is an actual word you can look up in the dictionary?
