Do The Palm Switch: Why I switched from android to palm

come on everybody do the palm switch!!! no? okay, maybe that wouldnt be a hit dance craze but it is something very few people would consider doing smartphone wise. But why is that? is the webos based pebble stone form factor not to your liking? wish it had as many features as other platforms? or is there too many features for you? Well that didnt stop me from doing what i do best, going against the grain.

ive always love technology, it alot of ways, its apart of me. im constinently talking about gadgets mostly phones, and im always looking up info about the mobile phone universe. i collect phones. yes thats right i just wrote that.me and phones are as to shoes are with women. just a hobby i love. and because of that, ive had the pleasure to see so many amazing things in the few years concerning the new age of smartphones. but there was always something missing with each exprience.

the exprience
the first smartphone for me and probably the majority of consumers was the iphone. and i loved it. simple elegant. fun. stable. it did what i needed it to do. but something was missing. it was my custom features. i couldnt place a wallper in the home screen and at the time no landscape keyboard for texting was a let down coming from a simple lg vu with this option. i then went to the mod community and started my road down heaven. It was amazing what the iphone community has done that apple refused to bring the first time around. it felt like i have found my place at apple. but a new ui came to play. a little green robot named android.

ive been following this small project from google while i was down hearted with my iphone and saw some things i was missing function wise. the easy to recieve my info at a glance and still continue what i was doing. true iphone was simple enough, but i found myself needed a platform that could be simple and at the same time deep enough to meet my everyday needs. So I switched to a G1. I loved it! my slideout keyboard, and my lovely notification bar. and i loved the emrerging droid community even more than iphone. it was trully bliss. apps were slim but no need to fear, the apps where few but the quality was great. and with alot of the other platforms(blackberry and windows mobile) i started to need something more. the widgets where a great addition needed and that filled my tank so to speak. but i needed something else. it slowly wasnt enough.

the way out
i started to get bored with the many ports of roms and apps that was created thur androids short lifespan. that sinking feeling started to sprout its ugly head once more wanting to now find a balance between the two loves i had. android and IOS. could there be a interface that gave me that flexibility? was there something out there that was simple but yet fun to modify without being mundane and quickly boring? Dont get me wrong I love both android and IOS. but they ran there course. To simple and closed, while Android was too open and without boundraies.

In came Webos. Ive seen palm and the various phones using Palmos but they didnt strike me as good enough to be in my collection of devices(i eveauntually got one for cheap just to have it.) but Palm really put there foot into this one. a well balanced OS. just so stunning and simple and beautiful yet, it was powerfull customiziable and had endless posibilities. This is what i was waiting for. It came to me then that this is what i wanted. it wasnt the fact that it looked cool with its card multitasking. it sure wasnt the form factor. but i saw what I liked from both Android and IOS that was done right. it was a hard decision though as it wasnt in my finacial plan to get one.

the desicion
i just bought a samsung vibrant which on android is probably the closest you will get to a full exprience in a smartphone other than iphone. but i found myself wanting to changed its look to webos constantly. it was a disease. i had to find a cure. it was the only way. the fake apps that acted like Webos wasnt enough. I made my mind up. i took this chance to abandon ship in which i called home for some time to hopfully make a new home. the first week of my desiscion was lovely but wierd i wanted to gesture up to change my card.......... on the samsung vibrant. it dosent feel right. pressing a button that is. i find myself moving faster and making quicker responses to actions with just a gesture. it is trully amazing. it trumps evveryway you can think of to navigating within a device. it just...make... sense. simple? indeed it is. fun? without a doubt the most fun i had doing nothing but basic things lioke texting and making phone calls. surfing the web. it does has its weakness but not enough to be upset about. i wanted to then push the envelope and root my palm pre plus. and it was easy. too easy. and from there i found the missing link with the deeper features department. great notifications was already there, preware made it great. organize was simple. it made it amazing and simple. it dosent feel like im looking at a screen. it feels almost real. apart of my life instead of being in my life. there isnt anything that the webos cant do that any other platform has done, at the same time. the best of both worlds and thats perfect in my book.

Palm switch?
so i dont regret my desiscion. it was probably the best thing i could of done for myself. that being said would it be for you? it could be,but how would you know? people have there favorites and thats completely fine. in fact that only makes things better. it makes it you. your phone your mobile. and palm has made something for me. and this coming 2011 will only get better. i cant wait to see it come about while i share it with you with more articles to come. with tablets and better ecosystems and smartphones alike, i can trully say i love my Palm............ pause.
