I guess Lowell Adams disclaimer about not shooting himself in the foot when he was asked about the unlimited data plans for the iPhone being $30. Smart move because just today Verizon backed off the of the claims but are now stating that the unlimited plans will still be offered, but for a limited time. Kind of sucks to be a iPhone user right about now, doesn't it? Well it only gets a little worse so no reason to blow up at Verizon just yet. Despite stating that the unlimited plan would only be for a short time, no mention of how long that window would be for the plan. That means that if you do get the iPhone but not within the window Verizon is still offering the unlimited data plan, you won't be able to ever get the unlimited plan while your under contract with Verizon.
After that window is closed, it will be more likely that Verizon would move to tiered plans for the iPhone like AT&T did. It does make sense though. The iPhone is good but because of the amount of data customers tend to use on the phone, it may have the chance to consume the Verizon network like it did with AT&T. Just last June, AT&T got rid of their unlimited data plan and put caps on their service, changing their data plans to $25 for 2 gigs and $15 for 250 megabytes. Verizon is expecting a lot of defectors to come over from AT&T when the release of the iPhone comes in February, but that could change if Verizon does in fact decide to change to tiered plans like the iPhone's predecessor did.
