Moto XOOM tablet Coming February 24th?

The Motorola Xoom has made the rounds to various events, but Moto has yet to reveal the price or release date. But a Grand Rapids, Michigan Best Buy might have just ruined the surprise party. According to a post on their Facebook page, the tablet will hit their store on the 2/24. Now this doesn’t specifically mean that the Xoom’s official release date is the same as Verizon stores could get it a bit earlier, but at least it’s coming this month. For how much, though? Don't know.

It was first shown at CES where it was the headliner for all things Android 3.0. Then just earlier this week, Google used a few Xoom tablets during the Honeycomb developer’s event. Yet Motorola kept to themselves, not stating when the tablet was coming or how much it would cost. Chances are the former of those two would be determined by suppliers and manufacturers while the pricing could still be a game-time decision since Motorola knew the Xoom wasn’t dropping immediately after its debut. They wanted to see what others were going to do.

MY THOUGHTS: it looks beautiful. I hope it performs the same.

THE DELL STREAK 7 TABLET

The Dell Streak 7 tablet offers dual-core processing, 4G network compatibility, Adobe Flash 10.1 support, front and rear cameras, and an inventive reimagining of Android 2.2.
But Dell's Stage interface doesn't make up for the stale operating system. Screen quality and responsiveness are not as good as they could be. The Dell Streak 7 polishes Android 2.2 to a tablet-worthy shine, and is the first to deliver 4G compatibility--but it's not enough to distract us from the incoming wave of Android 3.0 tablets.

The Streak 7 is the tablet we've been waiting for Dell to make. It's a device that's worthy of the company. It couples solid, refined hardware with a creative spin on Android 2.2. Granted, we've seen similar 7-inch Android tablets come and go, but this time around Dell is raising the stakes by making the first 4G-compatible tablet (courtesy of T-Mobile), priced at a tantalizing $199 with a two-year contract ($450 without).

PlayBook faces off with iPad in a battle of the browsers

We haven't seen much of the BlackBerry PlayBook in action, but a new video posted today by RIM is sure to satiate your PlayBook thirst. During the the three minute browse-a-thon, you'll see the PlayBook go head-to-head against an iPad in page rendering, Flash compatibility, and an Acid3 test. The PlayBook comes out on top in just about every comparison, which is unsurprising since this is a video from RIM, and in one instance it even finishes loading up a page before the iPad renders any portion of it. You can check out the full demo below.

While I wouldn't say that this is a be-all, end-all comparison between the PlayBook and the iPad, it'd definitely nice to see RIM's tablet in use for a few minutes. Both the keyboard and browsing experience on the PlayBook look really nice, and we're still at least a couple of months away from seeing the device land on store shelves, so things could be even better when launch time finally rolls around. So now that we've all gotten a good look at the PlayBook's Web browser and Flash capabilities, are any of you sold on RIM's tablet?

RiM announces specs for the BlackBerry PlayBook, for release early next year

Blackberry’s entry into the Tablet contest is here! Or, at least on it’s way. Research In Motion announced the “BlackBerry Playbook” at the 2010 DevCon, to be released in “early 2011”. The tablet measures 5.1 by 7.6 by 0.4 inches and will weigh less than a pound. It has a 7inch touch screen interface and sports a 1ghz dual-core processor (dual-core!!), 1gb of ram. Two high-definition cameras on the front (3 megapixels) and rear (5 megapixels). The Playbook will also support 1080p recording, mini USB and mini HDMI ports, 802.11 a/b/g/n wi-fi and Bluetooth 2.1. 3g and 4g models may be announced later. Although details were not mentioned as regards to storage, 16gb and 32gb models are speculated to be available on release, whenever that will be.

Instead of using BBOS6, RiM has decided to build new software optimized specifically for tablets. The new Blackberry Tablet OS looks like the love child of PalmOS and iOS on the iPad. This new software will support html5, Flash 10.1 and multitasking.

With specs this nice, it seems that RiM is really stepping into the modern generation of high powered mobile devices. Only problem is, the PlayBook won’t find it’s way to shelves until next year. In fact, with all the talk of tablets running mobile OS’es lately, the only one to have hit the market is the iPad. And many expect an upgrade to that product to be announced in January. So what do you think? Is the super-capable hardware enough to make you fork over the cash for a PlayBook? How about the Samsung Tab, or the iPad? Do you think the Playbook’s specs will be as impressive when it sees daylight, 4 to 7 months from now? And, as a side point, anyone wondering where all of this 1ghz greatness was when RiM released the Torch? Check out the video below.
