User interface:
Both the HTC Evo 4G and the Samsung Epic 4G are running Android 2.1, but they are using their manufacturers’ own custom UI. The HTC Evo 4G is running its HTC Sense UI and the Samsung Epic is running Samsung’s Touchwiz 3.0 UI. The custom user interface of both devices boil down to user preference while some might argue that HTC has a more polished widget friendly UI.
Keyboard:
The Epic and the Evo both have virtual keyboards, The Epic 4G is expected to come with Swype pre-loaded on the device which you can also get for the HTC Evo. The HTC Evo is limited to the virtual keyboard while some users have grown accustomed to the physical keyboard that can be found on the Epic 4G.
HDMI out:
The HTC Evo 4G offers a micro HDMI port that is capable of outputting HD media to your HDTV or projector. The Evo can display anything on the device (including movies) to the TV or projector (HDMI cable not included). The Samsung Epic 4G does not have an HDMI port; the Epic is still able to do video-out via its 3.5mm jack (cable not included) and unfortunately the Epic does not provide HD-out capabilities.
Display:
The HTC Evo 4G has a huge 4.3″ display that makes watching movies or reading ebooks much easier with 480 X 800 resolution. The slightly smaller display on the Samsung Epic is 4″, but the super AMOLED display provides a rich viewing quality.
Camera:
The Samsung Epic 4G is sporting a 5-MP camera with autofocus and a single flash, while the HTC Evo 4G has an 8-MP camera with autofocus and a dual LED flash. Both devices are capable of recording in HD and are rockin’ front-facing cameras.
Battery life:
Since the Epic 4G is not available, the battery life on the Epic can not be tested, but the Epic 4G’s super AMOLED display and Hummingbird processor are likely to assist the device in achieving longer talk and standby times as compared to the HTC Evo 4G’s Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
