What would make you get a new Phone?

Hey Everyone its MrCapcom for Mobile Kombat. And today I would like to ask you a question.
Whats your next phone? Being a somewhat of a Tech Guru myself you know with CES coming and the new year, a flood of devices are coming in. And I wanted to get your view on what will be your next device?

I will make a quick list of things that will move me to ugprade.

1. Has to be on Verizon - Ok me personally nobody tops verizon in service. Your mileage may vary but this is my list so there!

2. 4G LTE - Its all about the mega gigabytes son. With LTE on the rise I doubt I will use it but its the next best thing. Its kinda like hustling backwards getting a 3G phone when 4G is out. Hopefully Verizon will have bareable plans and give you a choice to use it or not. (if not then ill stay wtih 3G *contrary to belief im not made out of money!*)

3. Front Facing Camera – Its not the best thing in the world some may want it or not but its starting to be a staple in phones. I just got a 4th Gen Ipod Touch and I use the Front Facing Camera a lot. Not a deal breaker but come on its not hard to do it.

4. Processor power – I kept this just at processor power for several reasons 1 we have 1ghz phones out (Yay Droid X) Then we have the Tegra 2 Dual Cores then we have the mytical 4 Core phones. I have my Droid X with and with out Rom’s and 1ghz is enough for me. When I had my Omnia at 600mhz and my Droid 1 @ 550 yea it sucked but 1ghz is just as good.

5. 4.3 or 4.0 inch screen – Come on Droid X 4.3 Screen I can’t go lower than that. My Droid X screen size helps a lot with every day things email/photos/videos I don’t see myself going to a phone lower than 4.0

6. 8MP & 720P recording or higher – Yea Droid X Does and I don’t see why this won’t be come a staple in the future of phones. You want another reason for a father of three to spend money on these devices keep this in. I have at lest 1200 photos+Videos of my children on my Droid X alone….

7. Wifi N - Don’t believe my X has this but Meh

I think those are pretty much the must haves for a phone that I would need to upgrade to. Some maybes would be a HTC phone I love the Sense UI and I think I would move to them if I found a great phone but its not a deal breaker. Plus HTC seems more open to roms ETC. Next would be On Board usuable ram the Droid 1 came with somewhere around 256-512 where as the Droid X came with 8gb (6gb usuable) which seems to be a staple now in new phones (nexus S has like 16 on board ). And Of course has to run Android but we will get to that in another article.
So what’s your spec s for a new phone to upgrade?

[Update] Phone that comes close to what I said above would be the HTC Incredible HD ^_^

Me and my palm........

Now I know what you might be thinking, and no it's not that. iim referring to my palm pre plus. I recently bought it with a new at&t contract and I'm loving it. That's alot for me, seeing that I just came from using a android phone religously. So I decided to record my adventures and love of the webos platform with a segment I call "me and my palm"...... Pause.

APP Review Notification Notes

Hey everybody its MrCapcom with another App Review. Today we will look at:

Upon opening the app, you get this screen

Title Comment Sticky or Reminder.
Sticky
If you have it as Sticky it will stay and when you click it you will be able to change and update the post.
Reminder
If you have it as Reminder it will pop up in your notifications on a pre set amount of time.

Pretty handy if you just want a couple of quick words added. Maybe your wife told you something and you wanted to quickly put it in and have it up in the Notifications section. I know me personally I'm always having to put something down and not have paper or w/e so I see myself using this app alot.

MIUI ROM for OG Droid 1: Droid Does.....it Again

I had recently got a chance to root my phone, and after surfing and flashing a whole bunch of cool ROMs like Sapphire, Cyanogen, and Bugless Beast, I finally found a ROM that I don’t think I’ll be removing for quite some time. The ROM is called MIUI. The guys from Droid-life.com had released pictures and video of this ROM a few weeks ago and then finally got a chance to play with a stable version, and I have to say…they are the luckiest people on the internet to get there hands on this stuff first.

The MIUI ROM allows you to do a lot of things that some ROM’s may catch up on in the near future. The ROM itself gives you a kind of iPhone look. MIUI itself was released for the OG Droid 1 and after flashing this ROM; it is both smooth and fast. I haven’t had any issues with it like lag or the like and the features are in abundance.

Some of the features include an increase in home screens. Right now I have about 7 home screens but after playing with it, I could add nearly 12 screens to my phone! I have to say that’s impressive. You also retain the ability to add widgets to your home screen, something that the iPhone itself cant do. The ROM also changes the UI of some the important features of the normal processes of the phone like the Phone Dial, Lock Screen, and even the dock bar gets an upgrade allowing you to load up 6 apps in to the dock bar.

This in my opinion, is a very impressive rom. But if you haven’t seen this ROM for you device yet, be on the lookout, Droid-life mentioned that the ROM would be coming to a device near you soon under Android. One thing I can say about these ROMs and the developers that make them is that each ROM is like getting a different gift each time you flash one to your phone. And a special thanks to Droid-life for releasing this ROM on their site. If you’re a OG Droid user and your rooted, definitely give this a chance. From Android to Palm? R.I.P. @Qlight43

I don't normally make posts about my personal life but this actually has some bearing to something that we, as consumers, have had to recently had to deal with especially since the Android/iOS battle took off when the OG Droid 1 stepped in the ring to do battle with the iPhone for dominance. Its more like picking sides in a fight...and today (well yesterday actually) one of my good friends........defected.

Now dont get me wrong, we as consumers do have freedom of choice to pick any device we want to have in our pockets. Some consumers wise up, in the instant of the sudden burst in Android to iPhone sales. But when one comes and sees that the grass is actually greener on the other side but returns to that old dusty "other side", it kind of hurts your soul.

Recently, my good friend @Qlight43 (which is his twitter name) purchased a Palm Pixi under At&t, turning his back on the Android OS and the Samsung Vibrant that we knew he had come to love and cherish. Once a solid enthusiast for the everything Android, now he has defected to Palm and the all its pretty pictures.

It just reminds me of all the battling and beef that Android users have been doing with iPhone users (aka the Jobettes). We all make our choices for the phones that we want to use, but nowadays its more like picking a gang to join. Android, Blackberry, iPhone, and Palm, among others....which will you chose?

Droid Does...EXPLODE!

It’s not a good day in the Droid world right now. A man from Cedar Hill, Texas was injured when his phone, a Droid 2, exploded on him while he was talking on it. Aron Embry, the man that had his phone explode, said that he was just talking on it when he heard a "pop". When he took his phone down away from his ear, he said he felt something trickle down the side of his neck, which ended up being blood. He was bleeding so much that he had to be rushed to the emergency room to be treated. He had to get four stitches in his ear, but he didn’t suffer any hearing loss.

From the look of the phone, it looks like the glass on the front of the Droid 2 had a meltdown and fried the guy’s ear. The sad thing is.... he only had it for two days. Motorola issued a statement Thursday evening stating...

"Motorola's priority is, and always has been the safety of our customers, and all Motorola products are designed, manufactured and tested to meet or exceed international and local standards for consumer safety. We will reach out to the consumer and investigate this thoroughly."

While exploding phones are rare, most cases of exploding phones often happen when they are being charged. Keeping phones away from water and other liquids and to keep the battery away from metal objects while the phone is not in use. Sad day when the Droid name gets put in the news for something

like this.

1ghz Processor in a palm if your hand

Those Flash videos and games that won't play on iPhones and are hit or miss on Droid phones now work in the new Palm Pre 2.

The new Palm Pre 2 has embraced Adobe Flash. Thanks to its new operating system dubbed Web OS 2.0, Flash applications and videos function on the phone rather




seamlessly without additional software, apps or tweaks.

According to Hewlett Packard which bought Palm back in April, the Flash capabilities are just the tip of the iceberg of what Web OS 2.0 can do. It has also pumped up the Palm's multitasking abilities.

For instance users can pause a game, check email or read restaurant reviews without shutting down apps.

Keeping up with all of a friend's information is also simplified. With a feature called Just Type, by typing a keyword or someone's name, multiple options of emailing, updating a social network status, calling, texting or searching come up at once. Users "just type" out the desired action.

Technology Lifestyle Consultant and author of the Brotha Tech Blog Terrance Gaines finds the multitasking feature "smooth and attractive".

"Multitasking on other OS (operating systems) like Apple's iOS while just as fast, is not as intuitive," says Gaines. "The less thought that goes into switching between applications, the more attractive (or sexy) multitasking will be to use."

Gaines points out that Palm's sleeker and upgraded look may also draw the attention of buyers.

But ultimately it's all about the apps, not the operating system.

Currently the smartphone market is dominated by what Gaines calls the big three: Apple iPhone, Google Androids and the Blackberry. The iPhone and Android phones are the most popular because they offer a multitude of apps.

Notes Gaines, "In my opinion, apps are what make a good smartphone great, so the more developers willing to write apps for a certain OS, the more a brand can cement itself as the most popular."

In the app battle, iPhone is apparently winning.
