VZW Says No Take Backs, Delays Thunderbolt

The HTC Thunderbolt has been the hot topic for the past few days, especially with its imminent release date being chucked around like nobody's business as of late. Many rumors have surrounded why the device has yet to have a steady release date most recently being that the 4G Mobile Hotspot feature wasn't ready and that Skype's video chat wasn't ready on launch day. Now while these don't seem like big deals because they could be added with OTA updates, a new one has hit the ground, but I think this one is a little more believable.

According to the findings at Phandroid.com, Verizon is purposely delaying the HTC Thunderbolt in hopes that it can avoid the possible swarm of flip-flopping iPhone users that may not be happy with the Verizon's incarnation of the iPhone. Now this makes sense. It would cost Verizon a pretty penny in repackaging, swap outs and having to place iPhones on a "used" tag at a reduced price.

Remember too that Verizon just established a "14 day Return Policy" that was also mentioned by Phandroid. If the iPhone comes out to the public and the Thunderbolt, going under its rumored release at the 14th, people that got the iPhone and didn't like it could easily switch phones under the return policy. This would also make a headache as far as the predicted number of phones for new users and upgraders who would suffer because of the phones taken in the swap out.

Another thing to note is that the HTC Thunderbolt will have two main features that the iphone won't; Mobile 4G Hotspot Power and the Voice over Data, which is something Verizon hasn't had all this time. By most numbers, Android is either considered on par or surpassing iPhone. That means that its more likely for the switch to happen for the TB. If Verizon does plan to put this plan in motion, I'd say look for the 24th to be the release or later.
